In 2001-02, Trustees of Srikrishna Seva Samithi Trust, Gokulam, and others interested in music met, discussed and decided to form the Association ‘Srikrishna Gana Sabha’ devoted to dance, music and cultural programmes. It functioned at Srikrishna Temple Complex utilizing the hall ‘Alwar Kala Bhavan’ for Sabha’s programmes.
The executive committee meeting held on 16.11.2011 decided to convert itself into trust, retaining the democratic features under the bye-law. This decision was endorsed by the General Body meeting held on 18.12.2011.
In pursuance of the general body meeting, it was resolved to create a charitable trust known as ‘Srikrishna Gana Sabha Trust’ with an initial sum of Rs. 5,000 contributed by Founder Trustees.
To cater to the music lovers of Gokulam and surrounding areas by organizing music concerts throughout the year.
To develop and encourage children to learn music and dance by organizing classes.
To nurture young talents by arranging music concerts for them.
To give exposure to our artists by arranging music concerts and workshops by well-known artists of the state and from outside.
Honouring of artists during the anniversary of Sabha in March every year.
Establishment, support, and maintenance of institutions imparting education and training in all art, culture, and allied areas.
To take any other necessary actions to attain the above aims and objectives.

A meeting of fifteen residents took place at Smt Janaki Alwar’s House. At the meeting, it was decided to form Gokulam Association. Office bearers were selected among the residents present in the meeting.

The first general body meeting was held. Smt. Soundaram Venkatesh, Former Chairman, Town Planning Board, Mysore, presided. Bye-Laws of the Association were approved tentatively. Twenty two members were present.
Mrs. S. Venkatesh suggested forming a trust to get a site allotted by then CITB to build a temple and a community hall for the association. The proposal was accepted. Office Bearers were formed from among the initiators with Smt. Soundaram Venkatesh as President, Smt. Janaki Alwar as Vice president, Dr. M. R. Venkatesh as secretary and other members.
The Gokulam Association meeting was held. B. S. Sridhara Raj Urs presided. Smt. Alwar informed the members that CITB had allotted a site measuring 90ft by 240ft to the Trust. The price of the plot was Rs. 15,000. Trust paid Rs.3000 as the first tranche of the total payment.
Later, B. S. Sridhara Raj Urs was unanimously elected as Secretary of the Association in place of Dr. Venkatesh.
Note: Association meetings were held regularly, and residents were enrolled as members of the Association.
Independence Day was celebrated at the Lions School Ground with Novelist Chaduranga as the Chief Guest. Cultural programmes by residents followed it. Smt. Bharathi Urs compeered the event
A joint meeting of the Association and Srikrishna Seva Samithi Trust was held. Smt. Soundaram Venkatesh presided.
It was resolved to build Srikrishna Temple and Association Hall on the site and bring out a Joint Appeal of the Trust and Association to raise funds.

Note: A get-together of resident members (by subscription ) was held on 16.4.1982 to get to know each other.
Cultural Programmes comprising Costumes of India show and Dance and Music were held at Lions ground on 2.10.82. Annual sports competition, Rangoli and Flower arrangement competition and Exhibition-cum-Sales of products of residents were organized at the secretary’s house and were conducted by Gokulam Association until the temples were inaugurated and Srikrishna Gana Sabha was formed.
The Association paid the balance amount of Rs.12,000 out of the Rs.15000 towards the purchase of the site. A draft agreement was signed between the Trust and Association, allotting 90ft by 90ft site for association activities instead of the amount paid without violating the Trust Deed. Even the licence fee of Rs.1350 was paid during 1986 to Corporation by the Association for approving the building plan of the Srikrishna Temple complex, which includes the Association hall.
The SKGS Trust meeting was held at Sri Venktaramana Swamy Temple at 5.30 pm. As there was no progress in achieving the aims of the trust, it was decided to reconstitute the Trust with Smt. Soundaram Venkatesh presiding.

The Reconstituted Trust made phenomenal progress. Construction of the Temple was completed, and it was decided to consecrate Idol Sri Krishna by Sri Bashyam Swamiji in the august presence of Parakal Mutt Swamiji on 23.05 1991. Sri H. R. Krishna Murthy (as Vice President), Smt. Jayanti Pai and Sri B. Jayaram Shetty, who lent solid support to the Trust, were co-opted as Trustees in the previous trust meetings.
Navagraha Temple, built by B. R. Pai and Jayanthi Pai on the eve of their son Ajith Pai’s departure to America, was inaugurated by observing its rituals.
Sri Vidya Ganapathy Temple built by H. R. Krishna Murthy was inaugurated by Sri Balagangadharanath Swamiji of Adichunchnagiri Mutt.
Gokulam Association’s open Air stage “Kala Nivas” was inaugurated by Kannada and Culture Minister Sri A. H. Viswanath. Sri K. B. Ganapathy, Editor, Star of Mysore, was the chief guest. This Air Stage was dedicated to the memory of late M. A. Alwar, husband of Smt. Janaki Alwar.
Dr. C. M. Muniramappa was co-opted as Trustee.

On the occasion of the Silver Jubilee celebration of Sri Krishna Temple to be held from 13th May 2016, H.R.Krishna Murthy, builder of Sri Vidya Ganapathy Temple, was re-inducted as Trustee, and B.
